Emily, Maria, and Ed Chapman went to WDW Feb 2001 (Marlene opted for a peaceful
vacation at home) in Orlando Florida. We had 4 full days and 2 days of travel.
We met the kid's grandparents in Orlando Neil and Emily Chapman.
We drove through white out conditions to leave from the airport. This
was Emily's first plane ride so of course she got the window seat.
She was not scared and had no problems with her ears. The weather was great
the entire trip with highs around 80 and lows around 55. We did smell
the smoke from the wild fires on occasion.
We stayed at the Allstar Music motel. The Allstar's are the cheapest
on Disney property you can stay at. This allows you to take advantage
of the surprise morning and get in the park 1.5 hours before scheduled
opening time (which we did). The pools were warm and the
food court was pretty good. If you stay at Disney and are a soda or coffee
drinker you may want a refillable mug. It pays for itself if going to refill
6 times at the motel only.

The first day we did the surprise morning at MGM studios. We were the first
ones in line to get in. We rented a stroller for Emily who loved being wheeled
around and allowed us to have longer days. Some of our favorite rides
were:
Indiana Jones,
Muppets Vision 3D,
Rock N Roller Coaster (great),
Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey,
Backlot Tour,
Star Tours, and
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

We headed back to our room for a swim and a rest - we did this everyday.
Then we went to Magic Kingdom (MK) and went on several rides and saw the
fireworks over the castle.
The next day we did the surprise morning at MK. Some of our favorite rides:
Haunted Mansion,
Space Mountain,
Splash Mountain,
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad,
It's a small world,
Pirates of the Caribbean,
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and
Alien Encounter. They updated the Tiki Room but we liked the old one better.
We had a character meal at the Crystal Palace with Pooh and Tigger.
If you want to do this during a crowded day you can call
60 days ahead can make it 407-WDW-DINE (939-3463). We
went back for our afternoon swim and rest.

Mom and Dad came in the evening but had trouble getting a room right away.
We had a fun evening of socializing and eating.
The next day we did the surprise morning at Epcot. Some of our favorite rides:
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience,
Spaceship Earth and
GM Test Track (our favorite!)

We started visiting the World Showcase countries and stopped at the Rose
and Crown for a pint. The kids were getting tired so we ate a late lunch
in Mexico and we headed back for swim and rest and Mom and dad stayed a bit
longer. We had a another fun evening of socializing and eating.
The next day we (no surprise morning) hit AK (Animal Kingdom) before
it opened. Some of our favorite rides:
Countdown to Extinction,
Kali River Rapids,
Kilimanjaro Safaris and
It's Tough to Be a Bug.
We saw the Lion King show and Emily was one of a few kids that became part
of the show during the finale. She was thrilled!

We ate a late lunch at the Rainforest Cafe near AK and headed back
for our afternoon swim and rest. When we got to our room the Barbie dolls
and stuffed animals had been made up in an arrangement in our curtains.
In the evening we did the Fantasia mini golf near the Swan Hotel. There are
many interesting holes including 18 where you watch your ball spiral down and
then it soaks you if you had not watched the people in front of you.
